On Tuesday, Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Meta, stated that WhatsApp is adding a new feature allowing users to log into the messaging software on “up to four phones.”
To date, WhatsApp users have only been able to utilize one WhatsApp account on one phone, which has always been a source of contention.
Meta CEO announced on Facebook: “Starting today, you can log into the same WhatsApp account on up to four phones.”
Users can currently connect WhatsApp on the web, Android tablets, companion phones, and other devices by attaching up to four devices to their primary phone at the same time.
The new function, which will allow users’ communications to be synced across devices, including other phones, will be handed out to all users in the coming weeks, according to WhatsApp.
As a result, even if one device is turned off, users can access the app on other devices.
WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging applications, with over 2 billion users. Its absence of multi-phone functionality, on the other hand, was due to full end-to-end encryption support for chats and calls.
However, the business began testing multi-device compatibility with limited beta users in 2021.
WhatsApp competitors such as Telegram and Messenger already allow multi-device message sync; however, they do not support end-to-end encryption.
