The winner of the forthcoming match between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko on March 5, 2023, has been proclaimed the 2023 President’s Cup champion, according to the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA).
GHALCA has chosen to award the President’s Cup depending on the results of this specific game, as both clubs compete to overtake Aduana Stars for the league title, despite the fact that this is only the second meeting between the two teams in the current Ghana Premier League.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA), the government, and GHALCA held discussions before deciding to present the President’s Cup to the victorious team.
The game, which will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium, is anticipated to be an exciting one as both teams compete for the President’s Cup and crucial league points.

After complaints from certain supporters, GHALCA chairman Cudjoe Fianoo said a few weeks ago that the idea was meant to lessen the number of matches between Kotoko and Hearts in a single football season.
Fianoo stated to Akoma FM in Kumasi, “Fans have been moaning about playing Kotoko vs Hearts games too much in a given year, so we have proposed a system that will see the Kotoko versus Hearts league game double as the President Cup as well.”
In the event of a draw, a penalty shootout will be used to break the tie.
Hearts of Oak defeated Kotoko 2-1 to win the President’s Cup last season, making them the defending champions.
