Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, a highlife musician, has apologized to hiplife artist Okyeame Kwame for claims that the latter received money shared with other artists.
This comes three years after he claimed that the rapper was among the musicians given a share of the government’s $2 million earmarked for the Ghana Musicians Union (MUSIGA).
Ambolley apologized on LinkedIn for his error, explaining that MUSIGA’s former President Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour did not personally hand over any government funds as a loan to Okyeame Kwame.
He admitted that his claims that Okyeame Kwame did not repay the money were false.
“Okyeame Kwame only took advantage of the initiative and applied for a loan from Midland bank, which he was given,” Mr. Ambolley added.
He also stated that the artist had fully repaid the loan.
“To the extent that my earlier statements may have affected the reputation of Okyeame Kwame, I apologize and state that the errors in my statements were not made maliciously,” Ambolley added.
In February 2020, musician Gyedu-Blay Ambolley claimed that only a few musicians in the country benefited from the government’s GH2 million given to MUSIGA.
In an interview with 3FM, he stated that the former President of MUSIGA, Bice Osei Kufuor, who was the recipient of the cash at the time, was the one who shared the money meant for the union with musicians close to him.
“When that money came Obour gave those surrounding him, ¢50,000. I know what I am saying, I am not fabricating anything,” he alleged.
However, Okyeame Kwame threatened to sue the veteran artiste if he did not apologize within 72 hours.
However, in a subsequent interview on 3FM, Ambolley stated that he is not prepared to apologize within 72 hours, stating that he needed a week to make his checks and get back to Okyeame Kwame with either an apology or his facts.
He believes that something shady occurred when MUSIGA was given the money.
However, he later told Joy Prime’s Ibrahim Ben-Bako that he does not need the time to prove his allegations because accountability would either justify his or Okyeame Kwame’s claims.
Okyeame Kwame later filed a defamation suit against Ambolley.
According to a press release issued by Ambolley’s lawyers, the parties settled the suit “in a court-connected mediation process” and issued an apology as part of the settlement.
