Manchester United defeated Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley to win their first trophy since 2017.
After two goals in the first six minutes of the first half gave Manchester United the upper hand and sent them on their way to their first victory under manager Erik ten Hag, Newcastle’s own trophy drought, which dates back to 1969, continues.
After 33 minutes, Casemiro opened the scoring by heading in a free kick from Luke Shaw, and his team later doubled their lead when Sven Botman deflected a shot from Marcus Rashford beyond the reach of Newcastle’s replacement goalkeeper Loris Karius, who was filling in for the suspended Nick Pope.
