Nick Marsman, the goalie for Inter Miami, had his contract terminated a few weeks after he voiced worries about the team’s readiness for the arrival of Lionel Messi.
In June, Inter Miami’s infrastructure was openly questioned by Marsman, who questioned if a player of Lionel Messi’s caliber could be accommodated there.
“I personally think that this club is not ready for Messi’s arrival. We have a temporary stadium, people can just walk on the pitch, there are no gates. We also leave for the stadium without security. I think they aren’t ready. But I hope he comes.” he told ESPN when asked about his concerns.
But, the fallout from his remarks has now manifested, resulting in Inter Miami terminating Marsman’s contract.
Messi moved from Barcelona to Inter Miami last month, and the Argentine superstar has already scored seven goals in just four games for the team. His outstanding play, which included two goals against FC Dallas in the Leagues Cup round of 16, has moved him up to joint-fourth place on the club’s all-time list of leading goal scorers.
The 32-year-old Dutch custodian Marsman made 29 appearances for the MLS team after joining in 2021.
