Ed Sheeran recently spoke up in an interview about a private element of his life, including the mysterious chapel and burial that had been the subject of media rumors.
The Grammy-winning musician shared the touching tale behind the creation of his chapel and burial on his Suffolk farm in East Anglia. He is known for his popular songs and emotive lyrics.
In an interview with GQ, Ed stressed that contrary to initial rumors of a crypt, “I wouldn’t say it’s a crypt,” emphasizing that it is, in fact, a chapel. This revelation follows earlier this year’s reports that Sheeran had gained permission in 2019 to build a ‘private place of retreat for thought and prayer’ on his enormous estate, valued at about £3.7 million.
The musician then revealed the project’s emotional motivation. Ed noted that many of his dear friends who died chose cremation, leaving him without a physical place to mourn and pay his respects. The chapel was built in response to his deep desire for a place to commemorate and honor his loved ones.
Sheeran’s affinity to the church is much stronger because he stated a desire to be buried there when the time comes.
He says, “It’s a hole that’s dug in the ground with a bit of stone over it, so whenever the day comes and I pass away, I get to go in there. People think it’s really weird and really morbid, but I’ve had friends die without wills, and no one knows what to do.”
Sheeran, who is happily married to Cherry Seaborn, has recently suffered personal obstacles such as his wife’s health issues and the death of a close friend, Jamal Edwards. Despite these obstacles, the artist’s music continues to fascinate audiences throughout the world, and he remains intimately linked to his roots and the people he loves.
