Atlanta Dream has selected Ghanaian Laeticia Amihere in the Women’s National Basketball Association draft.

The 21-year-old, who was selected with the eighth overall choice, is the first female basketball player from Ghana to be selected by the WNBA.

Amihere represents the Canadian national women’s basketball team despite the fact that her parents are from Ghana.

Laeticia, who was born in Canada to an Ivorian mother and a Ghanaian father, became famous for her viral dunks while playing college basketball when she was 15 years old.

After finishing her fourth season at the University of South Carolina, where she won a national championship in 2022, the forward, who is 21 years old, declared for the draft.

In 36 games for the SEC winners this season, she shot 48.7 percent and averaged 7.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks. With nine blocks versus Texas in the NCAA Tournament, she also established a school record.

Amihere, a forward who stands six feet four inches tall, has played for Canada on numerous occasions in international competitions and was a member of the 2020 Canadian Olympic team.
