Ghanaian international footballer Christian Atsu, who died in the Turkey earthquake, will be given a state-assisted funeral, according to President Akufo-Addo.
Following the death of former Black Stars player Christian Atsu, Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed his condolences.
Atsu, who played for FC Porto, Everton, and Newcastle United, died as a result of the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey.
The President expressed his admiration for Atsu’s talent during a meeting with his family, revealing that he was a huge fan of Atsu during his playing days.

The purpose of the meeting at Jubilee House was to officially inform the President of Atsu’s death.
President Akufo-Addo stated that the government would do everything possible to ensure the footballer’s “dignified exit.”
“It is my duty and responsibility as President to make sure that happens,” he said when he received a delegation of the family of the late footballer at the Jubilee House, Accra,
“There are times when it is not pleasant to be in this chair and today is one of them. The young man we are all mourning is an exceptional athlete, a gift to our nation, and those of us who are football fanatics which I count myself as one spent a lot of time admiring him and his exploits on the field.
“The news that came from Turkey as a result of the tragedy that occurred was a torturous experience for us because, initially, we were made to understand that he was alright and then came to the conclusion that indeed he has been called by the Almighty.
“It’s a tragedy for his family, his community, and our country. I want to express to you, the representative of his family and the football fraternity of Ghana my deepest condolences and sympathies,” he said.
While no date for the final funeral rites has been set, the family has decided to hold a one-week memorial on Saturday, March 4, 2022.
Atsu, a member of the Ghana national team, appeared in 65 games and scored 10 goals for the Black Stars. He was widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most talented players, and he was highly regarded by his peers.
