Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino has spoken to support the recently implemented temporary limit on how many tweets users can view daily.
Elon Musk, the company’s owner, announced the change on July 1. Users and marketing experts were highly critical of the decision. Outrage was generated by the restriction, which allowed most users to see only 600 tweets each day, as many people quickly reached the limit.
Yaccarino highlighted Twitter’s objective in a tweet, emphasizing the need for “major measures” to develop the platform. This was the first time she had spoken up about the restrictions that Musk had put in place to stop system manipulation and excessive data harvesting.
Yaccarino said, “When you have a mission like Twitter, you need to make big moves to keep strengthening the platform.”
Nevertheless, as soon as the restriction was reached, users became frustrated and published images demonstrating their inability to access any tweets, including those from corporate sponsors. Marketing experts voiced concern that Yaccarino’s efforts to entice advertisers to the platform may be harmed by this restriction.
In response, Twitter claimed that the limits have only had a minor impact on users. The platform further explained that these drastic actions were required to get rid of spam and bots to maintain the legitimacy of the user base. The business explained in a blog post, “To ensure the authenticity of our user base, we must take extreme measures to remove spam and bots from our platform.”
Elon Musk’s Twitter limits for verified and unverified accounts were initially set at 600 and 300 posts per day. However, Musk increased the limits to 8,000, 800, and 400, claiming they were imposed due to extensive reading.
Shortly after, Musk raised the limits again to 10,000 for verified, 1,000 for unverified, and 500 for new unverified users.
Meta Platforms, Facebook’s parent company, announced Threads microblogging app, a surprising move that challenges Twitter, which faced criticism since Musk acquired the company in 2022. Twitter responded with a poop emoji.
