Ray Stevenson, who appeared in major TV shows such as Rome, Vikings, and Dexter, died at the age of 58.
He was well-known for his roles in the Thor and Divergent films, as well as several UK TV shows such as Band of Gold, Peak Practice, and Murphy’s Law.
Viewpoint, his publicist firm based in the United States, confirmed his death to the BBC but did not provide any further details.
Although no cause of death has been disclosed, he was reportedly hospitalized while filming on the Italian island of Ischia.
He was working on Cassino in Ischia, an action film, at the time of his death.
Four days before his 59th birthday, his death was announced.
Stevenson was born in Northern Ireland but moved to England at the age of eight.
At the time of his birth in 1964, his father was stationed with the Royal Air Force (RAF) near Lisburn, County Antrim.
His family moved to Newcastle upon Tyne, and he spent the majority of his childhood there.
After seeing John Malkovich in a play at a West End theatre in London, Stevenson was inspired to become an actor.
He attended the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and appeared in Catherine Cookson’s drama The Dwelling Place as one of his first TV roles.
Later in his career, he appeared in a variety of British television shows such as Waking the Dead, Dalziel and Pascoe, and At Home with the Braithwaites.
