Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced on Saturday that the social media platform would soon allow media publishers to charge users per article with a single click, a move he believes will benefit both the public and media organizations.
The new feature, set to go live in May, will allow users to pay a higher price for occasional articles without committing to a monthly subscription.
“Rolling out next month, this platform will allow media publishers to charge users on a per article basis with one click. This enables users who would not sign up for a monthly subscription to pay a higher per article price for when they want to read an occasional article,” Musk wrote in a recent tweet.
“Should be a major win-win for both media orgs & the public,” he concluded.

Additionally, Musk disclosed on Friday that Twitter will deduct 10% of content subscription fees after the first year, with no deductions made during the first 12 months.
Since taking over in October, the billionaire owner has made a great deal of changes to Twitter’s operations and offerings. These include monetizing Twitter’s verified blue tick and cutting the number of employees by about 80%. Since Twitter’s ad revenue fell last year, prior to his on-and-off acquisition that ultimately materialized, Musk has been enacting changes to increase revenue.
